binge reading

a real thirst for a good story

9.27.2004

Once again, it's Banned Books Week! fight censorship by reading a challenged book. go see the ALA's list of the 100 most challenged books. this year i re-read #3 and #22, and i plan on getting a few more from the list for my own personal library. if they are ever banned from a school library where one of my (future tense) children attend, i'll make sure they will still have access to it at home. i, at least, want my kids (when i have them, that is,) to be able to think on their own.

i can't remember when i started it...last week or so maybe, but it's my annual re-reading of *The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkein. i'm currently in the The Fellowship of the Ring, can't remember the chapter number, but it's titled "The Breaking of the Fellowship."

Archform:Beauty by L.E. Modesitt, Jr.-started 9-25-04; finished 9-26-04
i kept passing this book up, until i saw it at the used bookstore. i'm glad i picked it up. i enjoyed it. i like books that start with what seems unrelating stories and weaves them together in interaction.

still have some books from the used bookstore to pile through and i did borrow a book. need to finish that so i can return it.

hmmm.
i sent a post back on sept. 17th by e-mail and it never posted...odd.
i'll go ahead and list it again here. thank goodness my e-mail kept records of sent mail.

Monsterous Regiment by Terry Pratchett-started 9-15-04; finished 9-16-04
*Charlotte's Web by E.B. White-started 9-16-04; finished 9-16-04

ah! it's good to re-read the books of my youth.
Monsterous Regiment was very enjoyable. i have yet to find a book by Pratchett that was not. I did read two other books but one was quite forgetable, the other quite bizarre, so i'm not listing them. they'll be put in my "take to the used book store," pile.
