Grover recommended this series to me, and i'll admit to being skeptical after reading the good review quotes (at least 4 were from the romantic times. ick. i hate romance novels.) while i thought the early on romanitc scene between a 14 year old and a 13 year was, too me, corny and unrealistic, hayden can write compelling characters. i do want to see how the series ends, i just hope its not as sappy as most romance novels. why do i hate romance novels? well, i see so many women reading them. it seems to me that the image this projects is that the type of book a women would read most, here in the area i live in, was a romance novel. my grandmother had tons of them and i hated it. now, if that's what you really like to read, go for it. at least you're reading which is a good thing, but from the beginning it wasn't my thing. i wanted something different and i hardly knew of any girls in the small town i was from who read sci-fi. maybe a few would pick up a fantasy every now and then, but...once i picked up the hobbit, i knew what genre i preferred. i do read other types of fiction, but if anyone ever sees me read a romance novel, take my temperature, because somethings wrong. |
