#The Ruby in the Smoke, part 1 of the Sally Lockhart trilogy by Phillip Pullman-started 3-10-04

payday usually always means a trip to the bookstore for those of you who are familiar with this site by now.
i've been looking for the first book of the Sally Lockhart trilogy for some time now, only to be frustrated when all i could find was books 2 & 3. well, i was pleasantly surprised today when i finally found it!
Pullman wrote the wonderful His Dark Materials trilogy and i've been looking forward to more of his writing.

i also got copies of:
#Alvin Journeyman, The Tales of Alvin Maker, Book 4 by Orson Scott Card
The Dreaming Tree by C.J. Cherryh

Cherryh is going to be at a local sci-fi con this month and i thought that since i was going, i might check out more of her work. previously, i had only read Exile's Gate, but i saw that there was a collected paperback of the first three Morgaine novels, so i suppose that after reading that, Exile's Gate would make more sense and i would enjoy it more.

Card recently put out an essay on why he thinks gay marriage is wrong. i haven't read it yet, but even if i read it and disagree with everything he says, i will not let an author's personal views keep me from reading and enjoying their work, unless they start using their work as a method to preach their beliefs.
just thought i'd get that out in the open.
