binge reading

a real thirst for a good story

5.20.2003

*Exile's Gate by C.J. Cherryh-started 5-17-03; finished 5-17-03
Xenocide by Orson Scott Card-started 5-17-03; finished 5-19-03
Castaways of the Flying Dutchman by Brian Jacques-started 5-19-03; finished 5-19-03
Faces Under Water by Tanith Lee-started 5-19-03

talk about a binge! 8^) but when i go and a road trip, i do tend to keep my nose in a book to pass the time.
i reread exile's gate to see if i wanted to keep it.
at this time, i decided not to. it went into my box of book to trade in at half price books in dallas.
i ended up getting 5 new (to me anyway,) books:
horn and ivory by Charles de Lint
Faces Under Water by Tanith Lee
Castaways of the Flying Dutchman by Brian Jacques
Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay (a graduation gift for becca)
and book about the comic strip, Krazy Kat.

and when i got home, what did i do last night after work? i went to a book store! oy. i'm addicted.
The Darkest Road, book 3 of the Fionavar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay (this is to complete my set. i've read it before but it will be awhile before i read it, since i lent The Summer Tree and The Wandering Fire, books 1 and 2 of the Fionavar Tapestry to david.)
Tales from Earthsea by Ursula K. LeGuin
White As Snow by Tanith Lee

Xenocide is a continuation of the story from Ender's Game. i'll have to get Children of the Mind next. a excellent tale, as always, with some interesting ideas, such as the faster-than-light travel and the reapperance of Peter the Hegemon.

Castaways is the first non-Redwall book by mr. jacques. it's a sweet story, though i think it could become a series in it's own right...
why? because i think the story is a bit uncomplete. can't say why though. it's just a feeling. maybe it's because i'm always excepting books in a series from mr. jacques. 8^)

i'll comment on faces under water when i complete it.

becca was overjoyed when i presented her with Tigana! she had just returned my copy, with a torn cover no less! lol
i've got some book tape somewhere that will fix that. i'm just glad that see liked the story so much that she read it to pieces! 8^)
